Button up and celebrate British Manufacturing!
With campaigns, conferences, summits and exhibitions as well as websites springing up across the internet, everyone is getting behind a move to promote and encourage a return to British manufacturers. Three cheers for that!
Once the envy of the world, British manufacturing has been in decline for decades and as a nation we must now encourage innovation, rebuild infrastructure, develop new supply chains, promote exports and improve skills. Manufacturing offers varied and rewarding jobs for young people yet many don’t seem to realise this and we should do more to promote manufacturing careers to the next generation by highlighting the diversity of jobs within the sector.
Here at James Grove, we believe Britain hosting the 2012 Olympics with all that entails together with the celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee provides a perfect opportunity to launch our very own ‘Best of British Manufacturing’ campaign. As one of the UK’s biggest button manufacturers we are proud of our British heritage. Our skilled workforce works closely with some of the world’s foremost brands to produce bespoke buttons from real horn, polyester, corozo and casein. We are world leaders when it comes to manufacturing buttons of exceptional quality and beauty in a highly competitive marketplace.
“In its heyday” says Sue Witcutt, Managing Director of James Grove & Sons, “UK production was responsible for most of the clothing sold in this country. In the last six months, we have found that many retailers are returning to sourcing UK manufactured products, where possible, whilst encouraging consumers to buy British.”
It is also interesting to note that notions of ‘Britishness’ overseas are helping to drive high-end brand sales and whilst labour and production costs may still be more expensive in the UK, freight and import charges are eliminated, allowing for shorter lead times, which provides greater flexibility for repeat runs and short orders.
“There is no question, the tide is turning.” continues Sue “We should take pride in our Country’s skills and craftsmanship by building on our strengths and supporting a return to British manufactured goods. Here at James Grove & Sons, through our extensive customer base, we are once again bringing the ‘Best of British’ to consumers both in the UK and around the world.”
